How to keep your grey hair vibrant and healthy

Once the first strands of grey appear in your hair, it's not only their colour that changes but also their needs. Therefore, to maintain a healthy appearance, we must adapt our care routine to meet the requirements of grey hair. Which shampoo will help preserve both a healthy look and a beautiful colour?

As we age, the production of melanin in the body decreases, although this occurs at varying intensities in different individuals. This substance is responsible for the pigmentation of the skin and hair. When melanin is lacking, black or red strands gradually turn silver. For many people, they eventually become completely white.

To effectively care for melanin-free hair, you need to adjust your daily care routine accordingly. Especially since the old reluctance to grey hair is now a thing of the past, with more and more people proudly displaying their grey strands.

What to do to prevent grey hair from yellowing?

Grey hair sometimes acquires a yellowish tint. To prevent this, it's worth using shampoo and other products to which manufacturers add a hint of purple pigment. Thanks to this, the yellowish hue quickly returns to a cool silver.

Another important care element should be moisturising the hair, which will help maintain a shiny appearance. Therefore, it's important to ensure that both shampoo and conditioner have these properties.

Caring for grey hair: What to avoid?

With age, our skin finds it increasingly difficult to produce strong hair. Therefore, it's beneficial to consider this when selecting a shampoo. The product should have strengthening properties that support the hair structure from the outside.

Additionally, it should not contain harsh detergents that can dry out the scalp. It's better to avoid shampoos with a high ammonia content, as this can react with the hair and negatively affect its colour.
