Homemade cottage cheese breadsticks: The ultimate snack delight
The sections with salty snacks tempt with pretzels and crackers in various shapes and flavours. However, nothing can compare to homemade, crispy breadsticks that I enrich with cottage cheese. They are healthy and tasty, and kids love them.

They are great as an addition to a lunchbox, loved by both children and adults. This recipe is a real hit in my family, and I am happy to serve my loved ones something tasty and fairly healthy.
Homemade crunchy breadsticks
Homemade cottage cheese breadsticks are a delicious snack and a great way to provide your body with valuable nutrients. Store-bought ones are not bad, but they do not compare to homemade ones. You know precisely what you eat and avoid artificial additives or excess salt.
Cottage cheese is rich in protein, calcium, and B vitamins, essential for the proper functioning of the body. By adding whole grain flour to it, you enrich the breadsticks with fibre that improves the functioning of the digestive system.
Cottage cheese breadsticks - a simple recipe for a healthy snack
Preparation is straightforward, but I warn you immediately that they disappear so quickly that it's better to prepare a double portion. Adults crunch on them at work, kids eagerly eat them from their lunchboxes, and they are always quite popular at parties.
This is a "by sight" recipe because it's best to check in the oven if the breadsticks have browned. The time depends on how thick the dough rods are. The thinner the breadsticks, the faster they will bake.
Ingredients:
- 250 grams of cottage cheese,
- 1 tablespoon of butter,
- about 250 grams of wheat flour or wholemeal flour,
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt,
- favourite spices (e.g., dried garlic, oregano, sesame seeds).
Preparation:
- Crush the cottage cheese with a fork, and melt the butter in a small pot.
- Mix cottage cheese, butter, flour, and salt in a bowl. Knead the dough by hand, adding flour gradually until you get a smooth and elastic ball. The dough should be soft but not sticky to your hands.
- Form the dough into a roll and then cut it into equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin rod.
- Sprinkle the breadsticks with your favourite spices and place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
- Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C until they brown.
You can serve them with your favourite dip, e.g., garlic or tomato dip. I recommend baking slightly thicker breadsticks to make it easier to scoop up the sauce. Enjoy!
