As reported by the newspaper "The Sun," early in the morning on 17th July 2021, a passerby discovered the body of 37-year-old Natalie Shotter in Southall Park in West London. Now, the British media are revisiting the case.
The mother of three was spending a night out before she was allegedly attacked by a 35-year-old homeless man - Mohamed Iidow.
Prosecutor Alison Morgan presented charges against him, accusing him of rape and involuntary manslaughter.
On Tuesday, prosecutor Morgan presented a brief outline of the case concerning a jury selection to consider the matter. "It is alleged that [Iidow] raped Natalie Shotter and that the act of rape caused her death," she stated.
The prosecution's case is that Natalie was a vulnerable woman, out at night enjoying herself, who was then taken advantage of by this defendant, said Alison Morgan.
She further elaborated it does not appear that Natalie was conscious at the time she was raped, nor had she given consent to the defendant.
Footage from CCTV shows that Natalie was unconscious during the attack. Earlier that evening, she was recorded dancing with others outside a shop. She weighed just 6 stone 11 pounds and was slightly over 5 feet tall. It is known that she had consumed alcohol and might have inhaled poppers.
She had not been stabbed or beaten to death, there were no obvious signs of significant injury to her body and there was nobody else with her, added Morgan.
Tragic death of a mother of three. The accused pleads not guilty
Iidow was first arrested on 4th August 2021. The man pleads not guilty. The trial is expected to last a few more weeks.
