Taylor Swift is on her international concert tour, "The Eras Tour." The singer will perform three shows in Edinburgh at the beginning of June. According to the BBC, people experiencing homelessness are being transported to other cities from the Scottish capital. The charity organization Shelter Scotland brought this situation to light.
Under Scottish law, people deemed homeless should be provided with temporary accommodation for a maximum of seven days. The city authorities are responsible for this. According to information conveyed to the British broadcaster, at least several clients of Shelter Scotland took taxis to other cities, including Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Newcastle, about 160 kilometres (100 miles) from Edinburgh.
Homeless people are being transported to other cities due to Taylor Swift concerts
This situation is reportedly due to the upcoming concerts of the American singer. Hotels in the Scottish capital are full because Swift's fans have booked rooms for the concert period. Representatives of the charity organization consider this a "blatant injustice".
Our frontline services are already seeing people in need of a bed tonight being told their only option is to leave the city - commented Alison Watson, director of Shelter Scotland.
Nonetheless, city authorities have stated that officials are working with people experiencing homelessness and trying to organize "appropriate, alternative accommodation" for them. It has been ensured that this situation is not related to intentionally providing lodging for Taylor's fans, as the BBC has established that there is no evidence of homeless people being evicted from their temporary accommodations.
