Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, was killed in an attack on Beirut, according to the Israeli army. Earlier, the army reported new strikes in eastern Lebanon targeting the Shiite terrorist organisation Hezbollah.

The head of the Lebanese Shiite terrorist organisation Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced on Saturday.

A source close to Hezbollah told AFP that contact with Nasrallah was lost on Friday evening.

The Israel Defence Forces reported on platform X that "Hassan Nasrallah will no longer terrorise the world."

On a channel run by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a list of those killed during Friday's airstrikes on Lebanon was shared.

Alongside the Hezbollah leader, other high-ranking members of the organisation were also "eliminated."

Israel strikes Lebanon again

On Friday afternoon, Israeli forces conducted an air raid on central Beirut. According to reports, the target was Hezbollah's Islamic leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The Israeli army subsequently reported new strikes in eastern Lebanon on Saturday morning, aiming at the Shiite terrorist organisation Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Hezbollah reported an attack on northern Israel.

Why is Israel attacking Hezbollah?

Since October 2023, following the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip, Iran-backed Hezbollah began regularly shelling northern Israel. Since Monday, the Israeli air force has been carrying out massive airstrikes on Lebanon.

Over 700 people have already died in the attacks. Israel emphasises that the air raids are aimed at Hezbollah's infrastructure and fighters, with the operation's goal being to restore security in the north of the country. Over 60,000 people have already left the region in fear of the attacks.
