Halle Berry wins small legal victory in prolonged custody fight
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez were together for five years. Their media-covered breakup and battle over child custody have lasted almost twice as long as the relationship itself. Recently, the court sided with Berry, but it is not the end of the battle.
A few weeks ago, Halle filed a request for sole custody of their son, in which she detailed her efforts to address their son's educational challenges, fighting for tutoring, educational assessments, and finding a suitable environment for his needs. Berry claims that Martinez had opposed such solutions for years and had not consented to them. The actress also filed a complaint against her former husband for ending the parenting therapy and demanded an order for its resumption.
TMZ has learned that Berry has reason to be joyful. The court sided with her, but only in this small matter regarding therapy.
Short relationship, long battle
Halle and Olivier started dating in 2010. Two years later, they got engaged. In 2013, the couple married and welcomed their son, Maceo. In 2015, they announced their separation. Since then, they have been unable to reach an agreement. They finally divorced in 2023. They are still battling in court over the custody rights of their now 11-year-old boy.
According to the settlement, Berry must pay Martinez nearly £6,200 monthly in child support and cover the costs of their son's private schooling, extracurricular activities, and healthcare. Both are also obligated to refrain from making negative remarks about each other in Maceo's presence.
