Glycolic acid: The secret to smooth, summer-ready heels

Do you have rough, dried-out heels and don't know what to do? While it might seem like a pumice stone would remove the calloused skin, it only worsens the problem. However, there is a way that doesn't require scrubbing and will smooth your skin. You only need one thing.

Summer is the time when we are eager to show off our feet. We wear flip-flops, sandals, or thongs. Many people avoid these shoes because of cracked and dry skin on their heels, often a source of insecurity. How can you restore smoothness? Use a product that usually goes on your face. Apply it before bed, and you will notice a difference after a few days.

Rough and dry skin on the feet is a common problem that affects both women and men. Neglecting this area of the skin, which requires regular exfoliation and moisturizing, can further exacerbate the issue. Wearing improperly fitted shoes can also aggravate the problem.

In such a situation, most of us reach for a pumice stone. This natural volcanic stone with a rough surface rubs the skin to remove the calloused epidermis. Podiatrists and cosmetologists discourage using pumice stones due to potential damage and the risk of infection. Worse, frequent use of pumice stones makes the skin grow back even thicker and more robust.

So, how can you restore smoothness to your feet? Use glycolic acid. This product has softening and intense exfoliating effects. Moisten a cotton pad with it, rub it into clean feet, then massage in a moisturiser and put on socks. Repeat the treatment daily; after a few days, you'll notice your feet have become much smoother.

Want to speed up the exfoliating effects? Prepare a homemade foot soak that deeply moisturises and softens the skin and eliminates unpleasant odours. How do you make it? Take a large bowl and fill it with hot water. Add 3 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of oatmeal, a few drops of sandalwood or peppermint essential oil, and a teaspoon of olive or other oil. Soak your feet in this mixture for 15-20 minutes. Repeat this treatment once a week, and you will forget about calloused feet.
