On Sunday (26 May), the final, 38th round of the Primera Division took place. In one of the matches, Getafe FC faced RCD Mallorca. The match ended with a victory for the visitors, who defeated their rivals 2-1, even though they lost 1-0 before the 90th minute.

During the match, the home team lost their main goalkeeper, David Soria. In the 73rd minute, the goalkeeper collided with one of the opposing players outside the penalty area. The 31-year-old was seriously injured, and the situation appeared dire.

Soria quickly requested medical assistance. An ambulance arrived on the pitch, and a screen was placed around the injured Spanish goalkeeper.

Medical help was needed

The entire break in the match lasted just over ten minutes. After this time, the players returned to the game, and the reserve goalkeeper, Daniel Fuzato, replaced the injured Soria. The Brazilian goalkeeper did not perform successfully.

Although he spent around 20 minutes on the pitch, he still had to retrieve the ball from the net twice. This happened first in the 90th minute and then in the third minute of added time, causing the home team to lose their lead.

David Soria has been a critical player for his club this season. He didn’t miss a single-league match. In 38 games, he kept ten clean sheets and was defeated by opponents 52 times.

Getafe FC finished the 2023/2024 season in 12th place in the table. Interestingly, the team last scored points almost a month ago, on 27 May, when they defeated UD Almeria 3-1.

Getafe lost the next five matches. They were outperformed by Athletic Bilbao (2-0), Cadiz FC (1-0), Atletico Madrid (3-0), Deportivo Alaves (1-0), and RCD Mallorca.
