For several years, contests for frozen hairstyles have been immensely popular in the town of Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. They take place from December to early March.

Participants in this whimsical competition dive into the hot springs of Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs in Yukon to create icy works of art on their heads. The necessary condition is a temperature below -20°C. However, given the strong northern winds in this region, the felt temperatures are often much lower.

Once they emerge, the most interesting hairstyles form on the head - spikes, waves, mohawks, curls - which freeze. Participants also find their eyelashes, eyebrows, beards, and moustaches freezing. The winner is the person whose frozen hair looks the most impressive. Cash prizes await the winners.

Yukon's winter attractions

Other winter attractions in the Yukon include swimming in icy lakes, dog sledding, and camping.

Sightseeing flights over Kluane National Park are ideal for those who wish to see the largest glaciers. This unforgettable experience allows you to admire majestic landscapes from a bird' s-eye view.

The Yukon has a subarctic climate. The average temperature remains above 10°C for only four months of the year. The average temperature in July, the warmest month, is about 14°C. Long winters, starting as early as October and lasting until May, are very cold. Temperatures range from -20°C to even below -30°C.
