An oven is one of the most frequently used appliances at home; consequently, the baking tray within it is also frequently used. Dirt and odours can easily accumulate inside the appliance. To prolong the life of your baking tray, proper cleaning is essential. The basics include regular washing and carefulness during baking, but things don't always go as planned. That's when most people have three simple products in their cupboard that come in handy.

How to clean a baking tray?

Although many products are available in shops, it's worth starting with a homemade mixture. You can prepare it immediately with ingredients available in your kitchen. Preheat the oven to about 50-60 degrees Celsius. Prepare a solution of baking soda, a cup of washing-up liquid, and ¾ cup of vinegar in a large bowl, and mix until it foams.

Turn off the oven and use a brush to spread the foam on the baking tray and other internal oven parts. Leave it overnight. In the morning, rinse the baking tray with water and wipe the appliance's interior with a damp sponge. For complete drying, heat the oven to 150 degrees Celsius.

Cheap and effective cleaning without chemicals

Baking soda is a natural abrasive that helps remove stubborn grime. Vinegar acts as a degreaser and disinfectant, neutralising unpleasant odours, while washing-up liquid enhances cleaning efficiency by dissolving grease and making rinsing easier.

The heated oven allows the mixture’s ingredients to penetrate the stains better, making them easier to remove. It's a simple, cheap, and effective way to restore baking trays to their former glory. Most of the necessary ingredients can be found in your kitchen, so there's nothing left but to try this method.
