Sébastien Lecornu expressed concern in Paris, stating that when President Donald Trump talks about negotiating and enforcing peace through force, there is a worry that such an approach might actually signal weakness.

Sébastien Lecornu reacted to Washington's stance on not deploying troops to Ukraine and the issue of Kyiv's NATO accession by questioning what alternative strategy might be in place.

Lecornu highlighted that Washington's primary focus is China and that it seeks to end the war in Ukraine. He noted that the new Secretary of Defence, Pete Hegseth, had informed partners that the United States cannot handle two conflicts simultaneously.

Meanwhile, the US president's special envoy to Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellogg, emphasised on Thursday the significant role of Donald Trump in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. He also pointed out the importance of European leaders in maintaining lasting peace in the region.
