The Spanish site has announced a unique opportunity for tourists. Thousands of people can visit one of the most popular cathedrals in Barcelona completely free of charge. However, you need to be quite lucky.

The Sagrada Familia Cathedral is one of Barcelona's most iconic landmarks and a must-visit on the tourist map. The basilica was designed by Antoni Gaudi. Its interior can accommodate up to 13,000 people. According to the Catalan vision, the structure was to have 18 huge spire-shaped towers, each symbolising a different biblical figure—12 apostles, four evangelists, Mary, and Jesus.

Spanish gem completely free of charge

The Barcelona site caters to tourists. An interesting piece of information has been posted on the cathedral's website. As many as 20,000 people will visit the Sagrada Familia completely free of charge. The basilica's management has decided to allocate a pool of free entry tickets on the occasion of the upcoming great celebration.

This refers to the Spanish festival La Mercè, which is organized at the end of September in Barcelona in honour of the city's patron saint. A draw will give away free tickets for this occasion.

An opportunity for tourists

Those who want to win a free entry ticket must register for the draw. This must be done via sagradafamilia.org between 9 and 16 September this year. Registration will close precisely at 10:00 GMT. Out of those who submit forms, 20,000 lucky winners will be drawn. However, there is a small catch. The winners can use their tickets only during the Spanish festival, from 21 to 24 September this year.

Tourists visiting the Sagrada Familia these days will have the opportunity to see the prototype of the cross that will crown the cathedral's highest tower. It will be shown to the public for the first time.

It is worth mentioning that an entry ticket to the cathedral usually costs between 26 and 40 euros (approximately £22-34). The cost depends on whether you opt for an individual tour or a guided one and whether you want to visit just the church or the tower. So, the lucky draw winners will save a considerable amount.
