As reported by American media, Donald Trump declared before the elections that if he were to become president again, he would fire special counsel Jack Smith "within two seconds". Jack Smith is responsible for conducting two federal proceedings against the former president.
One case involves the storage of classified documents at Trump's estate in Florida. The other pertains to alleged attempts to interfere with the election results following the 2020 defeat.
What is Trump accused of?
According to Department of Justice policy, a sitting president cannot be indicted. However, Trump is also facing proceedings at the state level, over which he has no influence as president. In New York, he is accused of making an alleged payment to an adult film star in exchange for silence, and in Georgia, for election interference.
For state crimes, the president cannot pardon himself, complicating Trump's situation in the context of his return to politics. According to American media, Fani Willis, the district attorney of Fulton County, responsible for handling the case against Donald Trump in Georgia, has just been re-elected.
Fox News hosts shocked viewers
In the programme "The Five" aired on Fox News, the hosts shared their opinions about prosecutors conducting criminal cases against Donald Trump.
In the context of reports that the Department of Justice aims to conclude Trump's federal trials, co-host Greg Gutfeld speculated on how those prosecutors most committed to pursuing Trump would manage his return to the White House. Then a highly controversial comment was made.
"Do you think they need therapy?" Gutfeld asked. "Yes, they definitely need therapy, and maybe also the death penalty," co-host Dana Perino responded, which was met with Gutfeld's approving comment: "Yes, I think the death penalty."
