Former NATO chief Rasmussen: Putin's Plan B aims to weaken West
Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen believes that Vladimir Putin is betting on weakening the West instead of quickly taking Ukraine. He also stated that the Kremlin's Plan "A" had failed, and next year would be the decisive year for ending the war.
According to the expert, Putin's original plan for the war in Ukraine has failed.
When asked when and how the war in Ukraine might end, Rasmussen admitted that "it is difficult to predict."
Are we facing a prolonged conflict?
"I fear that this will be a long war. Putin’s ‘Plan A’ to conquer all of Ukraine in a few days failed. His ‘Plan B’ is a frozen conflict and Russian occupation of eastern Ukraine while hoping that the West will weaken and give in," he explained.
The outcome of the war could be decided by the US elections
The former Secretary General of the Alliance suggested that the war in Ukraine will last at least until the end of 2024, as Putin hopes that the presidential elections in the United States "will bring changes that will help him one way or another".
"In my opinion, next year will be decisive. If we give the Ukrainians everything they need not just to survive but to win the war, they have a good chance of pushing back the Russian," highlighted Rasmussen.
