Former Dutch Prime Minister Dries van Agt and his wife choose euthanasia amid health struggles
The organization disclosed that the ex-prime minister and his wife passed away on Monday and will be privately laid to rest in Nijmegen, located on the eastern side of the Netherlands.

"He departed this world with his beloved wife, Eugenia van Agt-Krekelberg, his pillar of strength and anchor, whom he had been with for over 70 years; he fondly always referred to her as 'my girl'," stated the announcement.
The serious health challenges of the former Prime Minister
The couple had been dealing with health challenges for some period. The ex-prime minister suffered a stroke while delivering a speech at an event dedicated to Palestinians in 2019. He has not been able to completely recover since that incident.
Van Agt was Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 1977-1982. Renowned for being part of the Christian democratic movement, he was also known for his vibrant language, frequently woven with archaic expressions.

Van Agt and his wife raised three children together.
