Even though four individuals are reported to have been on the helicopter, only Sebastián Piñera perished in the accident. The remaining occupants were rescued.

Piñera's two-term presidency

Reuters reminded readers of Piñera's first presidential term from 2010 to 2014, when Chile experienced substantial economic growth and a drop in unemployment.

Violent demonstrations against social injustice marred his second term of 2018 to 2022. The incumbent president is Gabriel Boric.
