Ford unveils Mustang GTD: Most powerful model in history
The GTD stands as further evidence that Ford knows how to make sports cars. Unveiled last year, the road-ready race car astonished everyone with its striking appearance and potential performance. Now, the Americans have disclosed more details.
According to the homologation data for the US market, the GTD version is the most powerful and fastest Mustang in history. The 5.2-litre V8, boosted by a supercharger, produces an impressive 816 bhp. The maximum torque is even more remarkable, reaching 664 lb-ft. Such specifications allow for a top speed of 202 mph.
Notably, the GTD is built for speed not only in a straight line. To prove its prowess, Ford aims to complete a lap of the Nürburgring in under 7 minutes. To achieve this remarkable feat, the car will be equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes, suspension with semi-active dampers, and advanced aerodynamics.
“We’ve been laser-focused from day one to create a supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang,” said Greg Goodall, chief engineer for the Mustang GTD programme. “The GTD’s heart is its 5.2-litre V8, delivering more horsepower per litre than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.”
It remains uncertain how many units Ford plans to produce. However, the number will be significantly fewer than that of interested buyers. It is worth noting that there are 7,500 people on the waiting list. The £425,000 price tag has not deterred potential customers.
