The fire broke out in the town of Afumați, near Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

As reported by the Romanian Civil Defence, despite the quick intervention of the fire brigade, one of the warehouse halls engulfed by the fire was almost completely destroyed, and most of its structure collapsed.

Rescue teams reporting from the scene of the fire emphasised that the fire spread very quickly across the area where the warehouses are located. They indicated a high risk of the fire spreading to other warehouses and residential buildings.

The fight against the blaze is being hindered by the intense smoke rising from the scene of the tragic incident.

"Initially, 10 fire brigade units were dispatched to the scene; however, due to the large scale of the fire, the intervention of additional units was necessary," reported the Romanian services.

The fight against the fire in Afumați is Tuesday's second large-scale fire in the Bucharest agglomeration. In the afternoon, a residential block caught fire in the third sector of the Romanian capital, west of the city. According to Bucharest rescue services, at least two people lost their lives in the tragic incident.

So far, there is no information about the causes of the fire. The services are also not providing any information regarding potential victims of the blaze.
