- A fire expert has been on the festival grounds since the early hours of the morning and has started the investigation - said a police spokeswoman, quoted by the dpa agency. The most important thing at present is to determine how the accident could have happened.

On Saturday evening at around 20:00, one of the 24 Ferris wheel gondolas caught fire. The fire then quickly spread to a second gondola.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened during those few minutes. According to information provided by the police, at least 23 people were injured - four of them suffered burns, and one person sustained injuries from a fall. The remaining injured, including rescuers and at least four police officers, were examined in hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

The day after the fire, the police were unable to provide any information about the condition of the injured, their age or gender. The spokeswoman emphasised that the exact number of injured has not yet been definitively determined.
