The incident occurred in front of the Grand Hisar Hotel, where Manchester United fans were staying. About 50 Fenerbahçe supporters surrounded the British fans and attacked them. Videos of the incident have appeared on social media, shared by the account GFB Bogaz Hooligans on the platform X (formerly Twitter). The video was captioned: "This is ISTANBUL!".

One of the Manchester United supporters who was injured in the attack revealed details of the Turkish fans' assault in an interview with "StrettyNews": "About 50 of them swarmed us. One lad followed me down a street and pretended to help before hitting me a shot into the jaw". He added that two members of his group were wounded with glass and a heavy tool.

The Fenerbahçe ultras account also published screenshots of a supposed conversation with a Manchester United fan, in which offensive content appeared. They wrote: "A response has been given to the traitors who insulted our religious and national values and gave us a position". "The Sun" reports that it was not possible to verify the authenticity of these messages, which might suggest their fabrication or the deletion of the original account.

The same source reports that there was also another incident in which 20 Fenerbahçe fans attacked a smaller group of Manchester supporters. Manchester United was asked for a comment on this matter, but no official statement was given.

Footage of the incident was shared on social media and rapidly went global. Fans are not hiding their embarrassment over the behaviour of the Turkish club's ultras. The match between Fenerbahçe and Manchester United will take place on Thursday, 24th October.
