Fear of lost luggage: Airport staff warns against standard marking methods

In the peak vacation season and amidst heavy airport traffic, travellers, fearing lost luggage, often try to mark it noticeably. To this end, they frequently tie identification ribbons to their luggage handles or cover their suitcases with stickers. An airport employee strongly advises against this.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that preparations for one of the most hectic seasons in history are already underway. This is a clear signal for tourists who, anticipating increased traffic and chaos at airports during check-in, are seeking ways to secure their luggage before travelling.

As the number of passengers increases, so does the anxiety associated with the potential loss of items. Consequently, many people see tying a piece of ribbon or string as an affordable way to locate their luggage in the baggage hall.

However, an airport employee, quoted by the "DailyMail" portal, warns against such solutions.

Ribbons tied to suitcases for easier identification can cause problems with scanning the bag in the baggage hall, says the employee of Dublin airport.

Problems with scanning luggage can delay its arrival onto the plane, as the suitcase must be searched manually.

A similar issue arises with stickers on suitcases, which can also disrupt scanner readings. Therefore, it is best to remove them before travelling and clean the areas on the suitcase.
