"It would be disastrous to assume that Putin wouldn't do this. One should expect it from him," said Strack-Zimmermann on the "Die Wochentester" podcast for the regional newspaper "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger". She emphasized that it is Germany's responsibility to ensure that "he does not dare to do it." Germany must bolster NATO and prepare for war, "so that it never happens".

In response to the claim that someone who supplies weapons to Ukraine becomes a "warmonger," FDP's candidate for the presidency of the European Parliament said, after studying the history of major wars, they are always decided militarily, not through negotiations: -  No one ever negotiated with Adolf Hitler. There was no escape for war criminals - said Strack-Zimmermann.

Putin won't stop at Ukraine

In an interview with the ntv channel on Thursday, Strack-Zimmermann issued a warning about a possible Russian triumph in Ukraine.

"If Putin succeeds, he won't stop there," she said.

The chairwoman of the Defence Committee concurrently called for a robust opposition to the Russian president.

"This man, Vladimir Putin, who is more of a monster than a man, only respects those who are genuinely strong and can defend themselves. He doesn't respect weakness," said the FDP politician. She suspects Putin was gratified when the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) proposal to furnish Ukraine with Taurus maneuvering missiles was dismissed in the Bundestag.

On Thursday, Strack-Zimmermann was the only Member of Parliament from the ruling coalition who voted for the CDU/CSU proposal.

"I did this solely because the Taurus system was specifically mentioned," she mentioned, adding, "I wouldn't want to reproach myself one day for not doing what was necessary at the crucial moment".
