Fatal stabbing in Manhattan's East Village highlights rising crime
A man armed with a knife attacked in Manhattan. One person is dead, and another, in critical condition, was taken to the hospital. These dramatic events occurred on Sunday afternoon. According to media reports, the victim and the attacker knew each other. It wasn't the first time they had an argument.

The attack took place on Sunday, before 6 PM, in the East Village neighbourhood of Manhattan.
According to the New York Post, a 24-year-old man injured three people. A 38-year-old man stabbed in the neck died, and a 51-year-old woman wounded in the leg was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. A 32-year-old man was also injured, but his condition is stable.
The police arrested the attacker and secured the crime scene - a "cutting instrument".
Dangerous neighbourhood. "We need police here"
According to the ABC New York portal, this part of the city has a notorious reputation. It is full of drug dealers and criminals. Since the pandemic, the number of homeless people occupying the pavements has also increased.
"We need cops here. Like there are sirens all the time in New York City and they need to be here, and they should have been here," one resident told the station.
"So it takes an innocent New Yorker to get injured or, god forbid, killed in broad daylight in an open street for you to toughen up or like tighten the screws?" another interviewee asked.
Daylight murder. The victim and attacker were neighbours
According to media reports, the victim was a musician, Johnny Medina. He and the attacker knew each other and lived on opposite sides of the street. ABC New York, citing conversations with the deceased's relatives and police sources, claims that this wasn't the first time the men had argued. Furthermore, some time ago, Medina reported to the police station, stating that the 24-year-old was harassing him.
Moments before the attack, the men argued. That's when the younger man pulled out a sharp instrument and stabbed the other several times.
The exact motives for the attack are not yet known. It is also not clear what charges the 24-year-old will face.
