Orchids are among the most beautiful potted plants found in our homes. Their care, although not particularly demanding, can be made even simpler with the use of home-made nutrients. Natural care solutions are not only cheaper than shop-bought fertilisers but also more ecological.

Simple nutrient for orchids

Orchids require not only regular watering and a suitably sunny location but also good nourishment. For this reason, it's worth knowing a home-made nutrient that provides everything they need. It is inexpensive and simple.

To create the nutrient, we only need approximately 1 litre of boiled water and a teaspoon of Epsom salt. After mixing these ingredients, we will have a nutrient with which the plant should be watered once a week. Thanks to this, it will bloom abundantly. Epsom salt contains magnesium sulfate, which helps produce chlorophyll and strengthens the plant's immunity.

Red onion, commonly used in the kitchen, can also be beneficial for orchids. This is because it is rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, and antioxidants. To prepare this nutrient, a large onion should be covered with hot water in a tightly sealed container. After standing for three days in a cool and shaded place, strain the resulting liquid through gauze. Orchids watered with this mixture once a week will quickly show positive effects - the leaves will become lush and fleshy.

Banana peels can also be helpful in caring for orchids. Rich in phosphorus, potassium, and calcium, the peels can be soaked in water and set aside in a dark place. After a few days, this liquid will be an excellent fertiliser not only for orchids but also for other flowers. Watering orchids once a week with such a mixture will strengthen them and ensure a healthy appearance.
