On Friday evening, it was revealed that Duchess Kate is struggling with cancer. She discussed her battle with the disease in an emotional video that caught the attention of international media. They also shared Prince William's reaction to this news.
In the first month of this year, Kate Middleton was admitted to the hospital to undergo a "planned abdominal surgery". Unfortunately, after the surgery, tests confirmed that a tumour was developing in the Duchess's body. The wife of Prince William disclosed the information about her diagnosis in a recording, which was released on the official profile of the Duke and Duchess of Wales on Friday evening.
"It has been an incredibly tough few months for our entire family, but I had a fantastic team of doctors looking after me. I am very grateful for this. In January, I underwent surgery and at that time my condition was not related to cancer. The surgery was successful, but subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer. My doctors decided that I should start preventive chemotherapy, and I am currently in the early stages of treatment," - Duchess Kate explained in the video she shared.
Kate Middleton's statement and Prince William's reaction
The decision to release the statement was Kate Middleton's idea. In an interview for "The Sunday Times," a friend of the Duchess expressed that Kate, as a public figure, felt the need to make such a gesture. She was also keen on ensuring that she wrote the content of the speech. One of the Duchess's friends told "The Sunday Times" that the Duchess wanted to quash all rumours and speculation about her health.
The reaction of Prince William to the news about his wife's illness was discussed with journalists from "The Telegraph." An anonymous source mentioned that the 41-year-old is deeply admiring of Kate's bravery and is impressed with how well she has been coping since her surgery in January. According to a friend of the royal couple, William completely backed his wife's decision to make the announcement.
"It was her decision and William fully supported it," said a friend of the couple.
It's also noteworthy that one of Kate Middleton's friends, in a discussion with "The Sunday Times," stated that the necessity for the Duchess to share information about her illness, due to circulating rumours, is exceptionally sad.
