Drones spark fiery attack on Russian refinery near Moscow
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, foreign drones—most likely Ukrainian—appeared over the refinery in the city of Ryazan, located approximately 200 kilometres southeast of Moscow. A series of explosions ensued. This is yet another attack on this facility within a few days.
The attack took place around 1 AM. According to local residents, approximately ten explosions were heard. The governor of the Ryazan region, Pavel Malkov, assured that the air defence systems managed to shoot down the drones.
However, from the photos and recordings appearing on social media, it seems that at least some of the drones reached their target. A large column of fire appeared at night on the refinery premises, illuminating the night sky over the entire area.
Russian Telegram channels report that the fire at the plant is "very large." Meanwhile, residents of the surrounding areas reported that after the attack, the access roads to the refinery were guarded by services. Only fire engines, of which a "large number" were heading towards the scene of the fire, were allowed through.
Another attack on the refinery in Ryazan
The refinery near Moscow was targeted by drones on Thursday as well. Ukrainians carried out a massive attack on numerous targets in Russia that day.
Among the targets was the refinery in Ryazan. Additionally, three Moscow airports—Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—suspended all flights. One such recording captured an explosion on the territory of the attacked refinery. The people gathered nearby subsequently fled in panic.
