Former detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who investigated the Madeleine McCann case, has joined the search for the teenager from the United Kingdom. According to "The Sun," he was photographed leaving a meeting with the distraught family of missing Jay Slater.

Jay went missing in Tenerife on Monday, 17 June. Although a search operation is underway, rescue teams have so far been unable to trace his whereabouts. The detective announced that "within three days" he would obtain answers and additional information for the 19-year-old's family.

I don't want to talk in detail at the moment, but I've spent time with the family and my focus now is to build a clear timeline of the last 24 hours before Jay disappeared. My focus is very much to ensure that I'm here to support the family and work with the Spanish authorities to get answers, said detective Mark Williams-Thomas.

Mark first contacted Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, last week to offer her his help. The investigator has examined a number of high-profile missing persons cases, including the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

There is a lot of speculation about what might have happened and whether they will give me full access and keep me grounded, allowing me to determine whether the disappearance was self-induced or involved third parties, assures the investigator.

The search involves not only the authorities and the private detective but also friends of the missing Jay.

Details of Jay Slater’s disappearance

Detective Mark Williams-Thomas assures that he will contact the two Britons with whom the 19-year-old left a music festival. It is known that the boy went with them to Masca in the north of the island. Jay stayed in a rented house with them for a few hours before trying to return to his holiday apartment.

Last Monday morning, he made his final frantic call to his friend Lucy Law. Jay told her that he was lost in the wilderness, without water, and had only one percent of the battery left on his phone.

Search efforts have utilised tracking dogs, drones, helicopters, and dozens of search and rescue teams. "The Sun" revealed that British police have still not interviewed the two men Jay was with before he disappeared. They were only questioned by the local police.
