Delta flight chaos: Seat dispute sparks 2‑hour delay
One of the website's Reddit users shared a story with netizens that she witnessed on board a Delta plane. "I was so furious with the airline for allowing these women to delay our flight," the passenger wrote.
A few days ago, the woman decided to share her experience on social media. During the flight, an argument broke out when two passengers tried to force another woman to exchange her premium-class seat for an economy one. This incident caused the flight to be delayed by up to two hours.
An argument over a seat on the plane
According to the netizen's account, a woman who had purchased a seat in the premium section was confronted by two other passengers. One of these passengers, who did not have a premium class seat, attempted to sit next to her friend. When she was refused the exchange, she began accusing the woman who had paid extra for her seat of ruining their holiday. "Are you happy now? You've ruined the whole flight!" screamed the woman whose friend couldn't sit in premium class in someone else's seat.
The situation escalated when one of the passengers refused to return to her economy-class seat, prompting the crew to intervene. "Does she really need that comfy premium seat just because she's fat?" asked the aggressive woman.
It should be noted that the woman's weight was irrelevant, as she had simply paid extra for a better-class seat.
After a lengthy exchange of words, one of the disputing women returned to her economy class seat. The woman being insulted by fellow passengers stated that she didn't want to sit next to such a "monster," even though both had allocated seats. Ultimately, another seat was found for her in first class.
The chaos caused the plane to lose its place in the queue for takeoff, resulting in a flight delay of up to two hours.
The story touched netizens
Many passengers expressed their outrage, criticising the airline for the lack of decisive action. "The Independent" emphasises that similar situations should be resolved more quickly to avoid delays and unpleasantness for other passengers.
"I don't care what size someone is; you can't cruelly criticise someone just because things don't go your way," one commenter noted. Others in the comments suggest that airlines should introduce stricter rules for passengers who do not take their assigned seats. "Everyone should sit in their own seats," "All seat thieves should be moved next to the toilets, in an area renamed the shame zone" added other commenters.
