Deadly school bus crash in France: Driver tested for drugs
On Thursday morning near Châteaudun in France, a tragic school bus accident occurred. A 15-year-old student died, and several children were injured. It was revealed that the 26-year-old driver was under the influence of drugs.
On Thursday morning, just before 7 AM Greenwich Time, a tragic school bus accident occurred near Châteaudun in the Eure-et-Loir region in Central France. The vehicle was transporting 35 students to schools in Châteaudun when it suddenly overturned on the road. As a result of this incident, a 15-year-old high school student died, and about 30 children were injured.
Two children were seriously injured and were taken to hospital. The remaining students received assistance at the scene.
The driver explained to the police that he was "passing a vehicle that was driving too close to the dividing line, tried to avoid it and ended up in a ditch."
The driver's drug test was positive
It is known that the 26-year-old driver was sober. However, a test conducted at the scene showed the presence of drugs in his system. A blood sample was taken to confirm this. The man was arrested and taken into custody.
The rescue operation involved six rescue vehicles and about 40 firefighters. A special temporary medical facility was also set up to assist the accident victims on-site.
Local authorities emphasise the bravery and composure of the older students on the bus. They immediately tended to the younger passengers, broke the bus windows, and helped everyone get out.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Data from the bus's tachograph is being analysed. It is known that there was heavy rain in the region at the time of the accident.
Fabien Verdier, the mayor of Châteaudun, noted in an interview with BFMTV that the location of the accident is on a dangerous section of the road, which had already been reported as needing modernisation.
