The budget-friendly Dacia Sandero enjoys immense popularity on the Old Continent. It's the best proof that customers primarily want cheap and simple cars.

The Sandero has once again earned the title of Europe's most popular new car. The Romanian hatchback reached 24,835 customers in April, which is 37% better than in the same period last year.

The popular Dacia placed ahead of the Volkswagen Golf, which sold 21,592 units, and the Renault Clio, with 19,225 units sold. The Volkswagen T-Roc took fourth place (19,255 units), and the Peugeot 208 closed the top five (17,273 units).

It's worth noting that all the mentioned cars achieved significantly better results than in April 2023, indicating a revival in the European market.

One notable loser in the rankings seems to be Tesla, whose Model Y was the most popular new car in Europe for 2023 and did not lose its leadership position in the first quarter of 2024. In April, however, it is outside the top twenty.

It is worth noting, however, that Tesla has recently faced several issues. These range from pauses in the operations of Gigafactory Berlin to strikes by Swedish dockers blocking the transport of the American brand to waning customer interest caused by the end of subsidies for purchasing electric vehicles.
