Crispy seaside waffles: Homemade delight without the holiday squeeze
With powdered sugar, chocolate, whipped cream – there are numerous options, and vendors compete not only in their ideas for toppings but also in their prices. A more economical alternative to overpaying at these stalls is to make waffles at home. Not only is this much cheaper, but you also don’t have to wait for your holiday to enjoy a delicious waffle.

Crispy waffles like by the sea
Many waffle stalls use ready-made mixes, which sometimes contain questionable ingredients. You won’t find anything unusual in homemade waffles, just flour, sugar, milk, baking powder, and eggs. However, getting the proportions right is crucial for perfect waffles.
The waffle iron must be thoroughly preheated. The higher its power, the crispier the waffles will be. After baking, it’s worth placing them vertically on an oven rack. This ensures proper air circulation and prevents the waffles from becoming too soft.
Ingredients:
- 300 grams of plain flour,
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder,
- 3 tablespoons of sugar,
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar,
- 500 millilitres of milk,
- 2 eggs.
Additional ingredients:
- 200 millilitres of cold milk,
- 1 packet of whipped cream powder,
- Favourite fruits, e.g., raspberries, blueberries.
Preparation:
Step 1. In a bowl, combine the plain flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, and baking powder. Crack in the eggs, add the milk, and mix until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
Step 2. Using a ladle, pour portions of the batter into a well-heated waffle iron. Bake until they turn golden brown. The time will depend on the power of your appliance.
Step 3. Meanwhile, prepare the toppings. Mix the whipped cream powder into a bowl with the cold milk. Wash and dry the fruits. Waffles with whipped cream and fruits are my favourite combination, but you can also opt for other toppings like jam, powdered sugar, or chocolate.
Step 4. Serve the baked waffles with whipped cream and fruits. Enjoy!
