Cottage cheese patties: A nutritious twist on dinner classics
Cottage cheese is a versatile ingredient in the kitchen. However, many people still use it only for sandwiches, unaware of the myriad dishes it can enhance. With its distinctive granules, this high-protein food can enrich traditional meals with valuable nutrients. One option is cottage cheese patties with boiled eggs, perfect for a vegetarian dinner.
These patties have numerous benefits. Cottage cheese is a good source of protein and calcium, essential for muscle and bone health. Eggs are rich in vitamins and beneficial fatty acids. Oatmeal supplies B vitamins, minerals, and fibre, supporting healthy intestinal function. Combining these ingredients creates a nutritious meal that keeps you feeling full for a long time.
Fried patties or the oven version?
If you are avoiding fried foods, bake the patties covered in breadcrumbs. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake at a temperature of 175 degrees Celsius. After 10 minutes, carefully turn them over using a metal spatula. Bake until golden brown for another 5-10 minutes.
Recipe for cottage cheese patties
To make the patties, in addition to cottage cheese, you will also need oatmeal and 6 hard-boiled eggs. Instant oats are easiest to use as they soften in 2-3 minutes. Boil the eggs, cool them, and remove the shells.
Ingredients:
- 1 package of cottage cheese (200 grams),
- 1 raw egg,
- 50 grams of instant oats,
- 6 hard-boiled eggs,
- half a teaspoon of salt,
- a pinch of pepper,
- a handful of fresh herbs such as parsley, dill, chives, or coriander,
- 100 grams of breadcrumbs,
- oil for frying,
- optional: 1 tablespoon of mustard or olive oil.
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix cottage cheese with the raw egg and oats, then set aside for 5 minutes.
- Grate the hard-boiled eggs using a coarse grater or mash with a fork and add to the cottage cheese mixture, mixing well.
- Add half a teaspoon of salt, a pinch of pepper, and chopped herbs. Add a tablespoon of mustard or olive oil if the mixture is too dry to hold together.
- Shape the mixture into patties with your hands. To prevent sticking, you may want to wet your hands with water.
- Coat the patties in breadcrumbs and fry until golden brown in a pan with heated oil.
- Place the finished patties on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
