China is looking to bolster its relations with Hungary, specifically in law enforcement and safety sectors. This is in conjunction with the ongoing 75th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of diplomatic affairs between the two nations. Wang Xiaohong, the Chinese Minister of Public Security, voiced this expectation during a meeting with Prime Minister Orban in Budapest. As reported by 'The Straits Times', the collaboration is expected to cover areas such as counter-terrorism and international crime, with China viewing these endeavours as a potential 'new event' in the bilateral relation.

The cooperation propositions also encompassed potential development in the area of security and law enforcement within the framework of President Xi Jinping's 'Belt and Road' initiative. This initiative is aimed at building a more integrated China with the global community by enhancing trade and infrastructure links.

During the meeting, Minister Wang Xiaohong also convened with Interior Minister Sandor Pinter and signed agreements on cooperation in the domain of law enforcement and security. However, elaborate information on this subject has thus far not been made public.

China's proposal for security collaboration comes at a time when Hungary, a Russian ally, has been trying to decrease its reliance on Western nations over the past decade. More recently, Hungary has stood up against pressures regarding the approval of NATO's expansion in Europe. It's interesting to note that Hungary is the only NATO member state which has not ratified Sweden's application to join this security bloc.
