Burgers are one of the most popular fast foods in the world. However, in their homemade version, they become more than just a bun with a patty. Since I first served cheesy onion chicken burgers, no one has wanted to hear about ordering this dish.

Soft buns, juicy chicken breast patties, a bit of lettuce, and your favourite sauce—these burgers are simply impossible not to like. They look great and taste even better. They work wonderfully as a warm dinner, party snack, or even a unique hot lunch. Their secret is good bread. Finding the perfect base in the store can be challenging, so I fluffy and, along with the extras, create a delicious whole.

Chicken burgers in homemade buns

My secret in this recipe is the perfect bun topped with herb cheese. This simple addition excellently enhances the taste and adds an interesting note to the entire dish. The buns must be watched before preparing the burger - they taste so good that they disappear before the fillings are added.

Ingredients:

  • 330 grams of cake flour
  • 60 grams of plain yoghurt
  • 30 grams of vegetable oil
  • One teaspoon of dried yeast
  • 140 millilitres of warm water
  • One large onion
  • 80 grams of grated mozzarella
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
  • One teaspoon of salt
  • Herb cream cheese
  • One onion

Chicken patties:

  • One large chicken breast fillet
  • 150 grams of plain yoghurt
  • Two tablespoons of chicken seasoning
  • 3/4 cup of plain flour
  • Two eggs

  • Four leaves of green lettuce
  • 100 grams of favourite sauce

Method of preparation:

Step 1. I sift the flour in a bowl and add dried yeast, salt, vegetable oil, plain yoghurt, and warm water. I knead a smooth dough. Using a food processor with a dough hook is easiest, but it works fine by hand. I transfer the dough to a bowl, cover it, and set it aside to rise for 2 hours.

Step 2. I cut the chicken breast fillet into smaller pieces and flatten them with a meat mallet. In a bowl, I mix the eggs with plain yogurt and my favourite chicken seasoning. I dip the pieces of meat in the marinade and mix to ensure they are well coated. I set them aside in the fridge.

Step 3. I divide the risen dough into smaller parts. I form a ball from a piece of dough, flatten it in my hands and spread herb cream cheese on it.

Step 4. I finely chop the onion, add the grated mozzarella cheese and season with pepper and salt. I mix it well. I dip half of the prepared buns in the onion mixture so that it sticks to the cheese spread on the dough.

Step 5. I line a baking tray with baking paper. I place a dough circle with just the cheese on it and, above it, the dough with the onion addition. I put it in an oven preheated to 170°C (340°F) and baked for 20 minutes.

Step 6. I coat the marinated chicken pieces in plain flour and fry them in fairly deep, hot oil until they are golden brown. I cut the baked and cooled buns in half, add a leaf of lettuce, my favourite sauce, and a piece of chicken, cover with the other half of the bun, and serve it to my loved ones. Enjoy your meal!
