Celery "fish" is a unique addition to the holiday table, blending tradition with modern dietary trends. As more individuals opt to reduce their meat intake, vegetarian celery "fish" has become quite popular. This dish, which closely resembles traditional fish in appearance and taste, is an excellent choice for vegetarians and those eager to try something new.

The origin of celery "fish" is linked to the rising popularity of plant-based diets, which aim to replicate the flavours of meat dishes. Thanks to a clever combination of ingredients, celery "fish" fits seamlessly into a traditional Christmas Eve menu, offering a rich flavour without animal products.

How to prepare celery "fish"?

The core of celery "fish" is a large celeriac, which takes the place of traditional fish. The taste and texture are similar to fish, resulting from a skilful combination of ingredients. Nori leaves provide the dish with a "sea" aroma and visually mimic fish skin. The broth in which the celery is cooked is also crucial for a deep flavour. For the breading, you will need flour, egg, and breadcrumbs.

How to make celery "fish"? Preparing celery "fish" is simpler than it seems. First, peel the celeriac into thick slices, each about 1-2 centimetres thick. Halve each slice to resemble a fish shape. Then, bring the broth to boil with a bouillon cube, allspice, and bay leaf. Once the broth is ready, cook the celery slices until they soften.

After removing the celery from the broth, drain the slices and allow them to dry. Wrap each slice in a strip of nori, which gives the dish its fish aroma. Next, prepare the breading – coat the celery in flour, beaten egg, and breadcrumbs. Fry in hot oil until golden brown.

How to serve celery "fish"?

Celery "fish" captivates not only with its taste but also with its appearance, so it's worth arranging attractively on the festive table. After frying the celery "fish", you can serve it with Greek-style fish sauce, enhancing its flavour and adding unique character.

Classic festive salads, such as vegetable salad or beetroot with horseradish, are excellent accompaniments to celery "fish." Fresh herbs like dill or parsley can also enhance the taste of the dish.

Selecting celery "fish" for the festive table offers a fascinating culinary experience and a healthy and eco-friendly approach to nutrition. As an alternative to traditional fish, celery "fish" is rich in fibre and vitamins, making it a healthy choice.
