Caramel apple pie with crumble
The combination of sweet and tangy, crunchy crumble, and delicate cake makes this dessert extremely popular among both adults and children. After all, there is nothing better than a delicious, homemade apple pie.
Hidden between the cake layers is brown sugar, which caramelises in the oven, adding sweetness. The apples are also soaked in caramel, so those with a sweet tooth will be in seventh heaven. It tastes great, both cooled and warm, with a scoop of ice cream.
Ingredients:
Apples:
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 2 apples
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
Cake:
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 100 grams of sugar
- 50 grams of brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 80 millilitres of milk
- 3 tablespoons of 18% cream
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 190 grams of all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
For sprinkling:
- 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
Crumble:
- 100 grams of sugar
- 100 grams of butter
- 95 grams of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 50 grams of brown sugar
Add-ons:
- caramel sauce - for drizzling
Method of preparation:
Step 1. Start by preparing the apples. Peel them, remove the cores, and cut them into eighths. Melt the butter in a pot, add the sugar, cinnamon, and apples. Heat everything until the apples start to soften.
Step 2. Proceed with making the cake. Mix the softened butter with white and brown sugar. Then add the egg, milk, cream, and vanilla extract and combine the ingredients. Stir in the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt, and mix until a smooth batter forms.
Step 3. Prepare the crumble topping. Sift the all-purpose flour into a bowl, add the cinnamon, and white and brown sugar. Pour in the melted and cooled butter and mix until crumbly.
Step 4. Prepare the sugar-cinnamon sprinkle. Pour half of the batter into a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with the sugar-cinnamon mixture and cover with the remaining batter. Arrange the caramel-covered apple pieces on top and sprinkle with the crumble. Place in an oven preheated to 175°C at 16:00 for 40 minutes.
Step 5. Additionally, you can drizzle the ready apple pie with caramel sauce or dust it with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
