One piece of equipment captured by the Ukrainians is a T-90M tank, which is currently involved in the Ukrainian invasion of the Kursk region. On its official Facebook account, the Military Portal noted that it is a vehicle with a "quick identification marking in the form of a white triangle." Similar markings are carried by other Ukrainian military equipment transferred to the Kursk region. What is known about the T-90M tanks?

OSINT experts on social media point out that the captured T-90M is in intact condition, and the Ukrainians most likely captured it near Sudzha. They also changed its name from "Poriv" to "Pirozhok." The vehicle also gained a marking in the form of a white triangle, intended to distinguish it from Russian tanks in the Kursk region.

The T-90M, an evolution of the T-90 main battle tank, has undergone significant modernisation. Initially, in the 1990s, the T-90 was a modernised version of the T-72 aimed at providing Russia with a more advanced combat tank. The T-90M version, also known as Proryv-3, was first publicly showcased in 2011 and is characterised by new technological solutions that have enhanced its combat effectiveness.

Modern technologies

The T-90M tank has advanced active defence systems, such as Afganit, which can neutralise incoming anti-tank missiles. Kalina's fire control system has also undergone significant modernisation, allowing for highly precise firing. The T-90M also has reinforced composite armour, providing better crew protection.

Application in conflicts

The T-90M has participated in numerous armed conflicts, including the war in Ukraine, where its combat capabilities have been extensively tested. This tank has become one of the key elements of the Russian offensive. Unfortunately, despite its advanced defence systems, the T-90M has also fallen victim to drone attacks, showcasing both its strengths and weaknesses in real combat conditions. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have also captured some of the machines.
