Due to the disruption of the water supply resulting from the network failure on Saturday, the mayor of Capri issued an ordinance halting tourists' arrival. In the port of Naples, from which ships and ferries depart for the island, chaos reigned among the hundreds of waiting people.
After several hours, the situation returned to normal. Initially, permission was granted for tourists with hotel reservations to arrive. The water supply was resumed on Saturday evening.
Capri is deserted
On Sunday, restrictions on arrivals were lifted, but not all tourists returned. Many people cancelled their trips, noted the Ansa agency. Some places, usually crowded over the weekend, were deserted.
As reported by the media, the hotel and catering industries are concerned about the situation, fearing that the damage to Capri's image might be long-lasting.
For Tuesday, local authorities in Naples have announced an extraordinary meeting to develop a crisis plan to prevent such a situation from recurring.
