Canadian warheads bolster Ukraine's artillery capabilities
Canada has announced the transfer of 1,300 warheads for CRV7 rockets to Ukraine, according to the Bulgarian Military portal. This ammunition comes from Canadian stockpiles, which had previously retired from service.
Canada supplied Ukraine with 1,300 warheads for CRV7 rockets with a calibre of 70 millimetres as part of a larger military aid package. These warheads, sourced from Canadian reserves, aim to enhance Ukrainian artillery capabilities. The delivery also includes other military equipment, such as armoured personnel carriers.
Ukraine received support from Canada
The CRV7 warheads, originally used by Canadian CF-18 fighters, were reactivated and delivered to Poland in December 2024. Now, the ammunition has been handed over to Ukraine. These rockets can be used from various platforms, including helicopters and ground artillery.
This system, developed during the Cold War, is known for its flexibility and effectiveness. These rockets, although imprecise, have a high destructive power and are primarily used against lightly armoured targets. They can also be utilised to destroy field fortifications or hangars. Their simplicity and power make them ideal for mass shelling.
Warheads for CRV7 missiles
The supplied warheads can be used with Ukraine's existing rocket systems, making them a cost-effective solution. Given the limited access to modern, precise ammunition, these warheads increase Ukraine's capacity to conduct intensive shelling.
Thanks to these deliveries, Ukraine gains new capabilities to conduct offensive and defensive operations. Although the CRV7 warheads are older, they can significantly impact the course of the conflict by providing Ukraine with additional tools to fight the Russian Federation's army.
