Canadian NASAMS bolsters Ukraine's air defence against Russia

The Canadian NASAMS defence system, procured from the USA, has arrived in Ukraine. The Canadian Minister of Defence, Bill Blair, announced this during the International Security Forum in Halifax. The system is intended to protect against Russian attacks on infrastructure and cities.

The Canadian anti-missile defence system NASAMS, ordered from the USA, has been delivered to Ukraine. This information was conveyed by the Canadian Minister of Defence, Bill Blair, during the International Security Forum in Halifax. The system, ordered two years ago, is intended to strengthen Ukraine's air defence against Russian attacks.

NASAMS in Ukraine

NASAMS, or National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, is capable of deploying short and medium-range missiles. It can be utilised for defence against drones, missiles, and air attacks. The value of the system is 406 million Canadian dollars (231 million pounds). Since February 2022, Canada has provided Ukraine with over 300 missiles for air defence.

Minister Blair expressed gratitude to the United States and Norway for their cooperation in transporting the system. NASAMS is crucial for protecting Ukraine's critical infrastructure and cities from destructive air attacks.
