On Monday, 12 August, at around midnight, the police in Algarve received a report of a probable crime. The incident is believed to have occurred near the popular tourist resort of Albufeira. The victim of the assailants was an approximately 50-year-old Irish woman.

According to "The Sun", the woman was attacked and then most likely violated by two assailants, who are currently being sought by the police. Officers are analysing CCTV footage and taking statements from potential witnesses.

Further crimes committed by tourists in Algarve

This is not the first instance of crimes involving tourists in Algarve. The last high-profile incident was a month ago, when on 29 July, in the same district as the probable violation of the Irishwoman, riots broke out. During these riots, an attempted murder is believed to have taken place.

The investigation into this matter led Portuguese investigators to one of the Irish tourists, allegedly involved in the brawl. The Irishman was charged with attempted murder and injuring several people. The reason for this bloody brawl was believed to be loud music played by Dutch citizens.
