Nothing in recent times has elicited such strong emotions as the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. What happened on Friday, 26 July, along the Seine is still being talked about around the world. However, the organisers' efforts did not appeal to everyone. Undoubtedly, the artistic segment "Festivite" resonated the most in the media.
This segment of Friday's ceremony featured various performers sitting at a long table, including drag queens, a transgender model, and an almost naked singer. Conservative circles see the "performance" as mocking and offensive. The French DJ, Barbara Butch, who supposedly played the role of Jesus, became the true star of the event. Unfortunately, this also had its dark sides.
She performed at the Olympics opening ceremony. Now she is notifying the police
After her performance at the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris, Barbara Butch has become the target of attacks from conservative circles. A few days after the performance, the DJ shared a letter prepared by her lawyers on social media. As noted in the published document, the harassment case has already been reported to the appropriate authorities.
Since the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris in 2024, artist, DJ, and activist Barbara Butch has been the target of brutal actions, cyberbullying, and defamation. She has been threatened with death, torture, and rape, and was subjected to numerous anti-Semitic, homophobic, and sexist slurs - reads the letter posted on Instagram.
Barbara Butch condemns this vile hatred directed against her, the things she represents, and what she stands for. Her engagement and personal values, such as kindness and love for others, have always been at the centre of her artistic activities: promoting celebrations for everyone regardless of their age, sexual orientation, origin, religion, or gender. My client is filing several complaints today concerning these acts, committed by French citizens or foreigners, and intends to prosecute anyone who tries to intimidate her in the future - it concluded.
