This versatile mixture includes bicarbonate of soda, potato starch, and usually citric acid. It is well-documented that this combination has impressive cleaning abilities, being especially effective at removing scale, deposits, and streaks. Here, we discuss how to use baking powder for cleaning purposes.

Using baking powder as a descaler: Eliminating unpleasant bathroom coatings

The bathroom plays a key role in any home. After long and tiring days, we look forward to unwinding with a relaxing bath. We all want our bathrooms to be clean and pleasant. However, maintaining a sparkling bathroom is often a challenge. The constant use of water and detergents invariably leads to streaks and scales appearing

These deposits occur due to the precipitation of calcium and magnesium salts that settle on ceramics and fittings over time. Thankfully, these can be easily removed with items you might already have at home: bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, citric acid or indeed, baking powder.

When combined with acid, baking powder can transform into a potent cleaning agent. Make your own cleaning paste that can effectively remove unsightly coatings. The recipe is simple: mix two teaspoons of baking powder with a tablespoon of spirit vinegar. Apply the paste to scaled fittings using an old toothbrush and leave to act for thirty minutes.

After waiting for half an hour, use a toothbrush to wipe various fixtures, subsequently rinsing off the paste. You'll notice that the scale has completely vanished. This trick can be applied when cleaning your sink, taps or toilet, leaving them looking as good as new.

Diy cleaning solution for shower cabins: Say goodbye to streaks

In a shower cubicle, water, soap and cosmetic residues inevitably accumulate, resulting in unsightly streaks that can be truly challenging to remove. Regular cleaning products may not always do the trick. However, a homemade detergent could be the perfect solution to eliminate these stubborn deposits.

Firstly, grab a spray bottle. Fill it with approximately 100ml of apple cider vinegar and the same amount of dishwasher rinse aid. Finally, add two packets of baking powder and shake the bottle well. Spray your shower cabin with the prepared liquid and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Following this, wipe the cabin with a moisture-rich sponge and rinse off the mixture, leaving it sparkling clean.
