Ayrton Senna's beloved Honda NSX has been put up for sale

Ayrton Senna significantly contributed to the creation of the first Honda NSX. The model, always available to the legendary driver during his stays in Portugal, has now been put on the market. The current owner is seeking substantial compensation for this reluctant parting.

The Honda NSX is unquestionably one of the greatest automotive icons of the '90s. The Japanese were in their first golden era of Formula 1, securing titles from 1986 - initially with Williams and subsequently with McLaren. The expertise gained in the pinnacle of motorsport was later utilised in developing the NSX, which was introduced in 1990.

The popularity and capabilities of this model certainly wouldn't have been so impressive without the active involvement of Ayrton Senna. The 3-time world champion, who claimed his titles with the Honda power unit, was intimately involved in the car's development. He tested various prototypes and provided detailed feedback, guiding engineers toward necessary enhancements.

The Brazilian took ownership of several Honda NSX units, and one is about to start a new chapter. It has been put on the market, and the owner has decided to share its tale. A narrative that, for good reason, pushes the price of this particular NSX to an astonishing level.

Robert McFagan purchased the car 2013 from a Honda dealer in Faro, Portugal. Honda Portugal officially owned this particular NSX but was entirely at Senna’s disposal whenever he was on his property in the Algarve. Moreover, he often took this car with him to races.

Before Senna tragically passed away on 1 May 1994 at the Imola track, he had covered around 5,000 kilometres (about 3,100 miles) in this car, according to McFagan. Over the following 11 years, the current owner added about 22,000 kilometres (approximately 13,670 miles) to the car, now displaying around 64,000 kilometres (about 40,000 miles) on the odometer.

The car was stored in a showroom during winter. In fact, in a living room — McFagan even shared a photo as proof. The vehicle was also not driven in the rain and has been maintained by the same mechanic for 9 years. The oil was changed routinely, and the water pump and timing belt were recently replaced.

As one might expect, the asking price for such a model is staggering. Indeed — the price for Ayrton Senna's Honda NSX has been set at an impressive 500,000 pounds (over 625,000 dollars). McFagan reveals that in August 2024, he intends to showcase the car at the Senna Exhibition event at Silverstone. He hopes the new owner will exhibit patience and take custody of this exclusive NSX after the event.
