The IOM report indicates that a significant portion of Albania's workforce is employed in other countries, which negatively impacts the Albanian economy.

Businesses in Albania are still experiencing employee losses, affecting both low-skilled sectors and highly qualified professions.

Experts from the IOM identify key drivers of emigration as widespread poverty, significant wage gaps compared to other countries, corruption, and a system where job placements are not always based on merit.

The organization emphasised Albania and Moldova as most affected by this European issue.

Experts quoted by Euronews pointed out that the number of foreign workers registered in Albania continues to grow each year. Foreigners are expected to fill the gap caused by mass emigration. In 2024, over 13,000 were registered.
