There's a reason why breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day. Although other meals are also significant, a good start in the morning provides strength and energy for the day. If breakfast is also tasty, it boosts motivation to work. Why not try a quick Greek recipe instead of the typical sandwiches or uninteresting scrambled eggs?

Greek breakfast is a celebration of simplicity. It's ideal for days when you don't have much time to decide what to eat for your first or second meal. The foundation of this breakfast is thick Greek yoghurt, rich in protein and probiotics. In addition, it includes nuts, one of the best sources of healthy fats in the diet. To sweeten your morning, you can add honey, preferably from a good local apiary. Every ingredient in this breakfast is a treasure trove of nutrients, and their combination provides the energy for a good morning.

Greek breakfast

Like Italians, Greeks don't emphasize breakfast, focusing instead on afternoon meals. However, this doesn't mean they leave home with a rumbling stomach. A typical Greek breakfast consists of thick yoghurt, honey, and nuts. People prefer this bowl during summer when the heat is intense, reducing their appetite and desire to prepare something cooked, especially fried food.

Greek yogurt with honey and nuts

This meal has everything you need. From yoghurt, you get protein and calcium; from nuts, you get healthy unsaturated fats; from honey, you get antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties; and from fruits, you get vitamins and polyphenols. Adding oatmeal, chia seeds, or flaxseed to the yoghurt increases fibre content.

The recipe for such a breakfast is straightforward. It's perfect for those who are in a morning rush and don't have time.

Ingredients:

  • 140 grams of thick natural Greek yoghurt,
  • 2 tablespoons of good quality honey (e.g., thyme, chestnut, or multi-flower),
  • 30 grams of walnuts,
  • seasonal fruits (optional).

Preparation:

  1. Place the Greek yoghurt in a bowl.
  2. Add honey and mix until uniform in consistency.
  3. Top with chopped walnuts and fresh fruits.

It's simple, quick, and delicious - Greek breakfast is a good start to the morning.
