Some people prefer it sweet, adding more sugar or honey, while others prefer a sour version, saying it refreshes even more. Lemonade has been popular for years, confidently competing with fizzy drinks on restaurant menus. Making it at home is simple, and you don't have to limit yourself to just lemons.

How to make lemonade?

The first mention of a drink resembling lemonade comes from Egypt over a thousand years ago. Ancient Egyptians combined lemons with dates and honey. Over time, lemonade conquered the world, becoming one of the most popular drinks. In Europe, lemonade probably appeared at the beginning of the 19th century and quickly gained popularity, especially after the First World War.

Making homemade lemonade is simple. You only need a few basic ingredients: lemons, sugar, water, and a bit of imagination. You can experiment with different fruits, herbs, and additives. Instead of plain water, you can also opt for sparkling water. Sugar, honey, erythritol, or xylitol work well as sweeteners.

It's worth adding sugar to the lemonade gradually, adjusting the sweetness to individual preferences.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of rhubarb,
  • 200 grams of sugar,
  • 1 litre of water
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • A sprig of mint for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Wash the rhubarb, cut it into smaller pieces, and put it in a pot.
  2. Add sugar and water to the rhubarb. Cook over medium heat until the rhubarb softens and the sugar dissolves.
  3. Strain the hot mixture through a sieve to remove the pieces of rhubarb.
  4. Cool, then add the juice of two lemons.
  5. Pour the lemonade into a pitcher and chill in the refrigerator.
  6. Before serving, add ice and a sprig of mint to the glasses.

Homemade rhubarb lemonade tastes simply wonderful. It's the best way to refresh yourself in the summer.
